Single sign-on (SSO) is an authentication scheme that allows a user to log in with a single ID to any of several related, yet independent, software systems.
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security technology that requires multiple methods of authentication from independent credentials to verify a user’s identity for a login or other transaction.
Multifactor authentication usually combines two or more independent credentials: such as a known user password; and a security token of some sort using biometric verification or a 3rd party token, certificate, or physical item like a key card, fob or so forth to be used together to prove proof of identity and allow access.
